Radio Jaagriti 102.7 FM is Trinidad and Tobago’s only round-the-clock radio station devoted entirely to Hindu religious programming, devotional music, and the cultural traditions of the Hindu community. Broadcasting on 102.7 MHz from the corner of Pasea Main Road Extension and the Churchill Roosevelt Highway in Tunapuna, the station serves Hindu listeners across Trinidad and Tobago — and increasingly, the wider Caribbean Hindu diaspora tuning in online.
The station is owned and operated by Central Broadcasting Services Limited, the media arm of the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha (SDMS) — the largest and most influential Hindu organisation in Trinidad and Tobago, established in 1952 and operating over 150 mandirs, more than 50 schools, and a tertiary institution across the country.
Radio Jaagriti 102.7 FM began broadcasts on 19 January 2007 — and the build-up to that moment was unlike anything the local media landscape had seen. The station had generated extraordinary public anticipation in the months before it went live, with the Hindu community widely regarding it as a long-overdue dedicated voice in national broadcasting. sangeet1061
The vision behind the station was driven in large part by Satnarayan Maharaj (Sat Maharaj ji), then Secretary General of the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha and one of the most prominent figures in the Indo-Trinidadian public life of his era. A passionate advocate for the recognition of Hindu culture in the national media, Sat Maharaj ji was the guiding force behind the station’s establishment and was himself a familiar on-air presence, hosting the widely listened-to current affairs programme Maha Sabha Strikes Back.
In February 2015, the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha expanded its media presence further with the launch of TV Jaagriti — a full Hindu religious television channel affiliated with Radio Jaagriti and now available on YouTube, Facebook, and Tego TV. Together, Radio Jaagriti and TV Jaagriti form the Jaagriti media network, the Caribbean’s most comprehensive Hindu broadcasting platform, operating under the management of Vijay Maharaj as managing director of Central Broadcasting Services Limited.
What makes Radio Jaagriti unique is the depth and diversity of its programming relative to its singular focus. The station broadcasts in four languages — Trinidadian and Tobagonian English, Trinidadian Hindustani, Modern Standard Hindi, and Sanskrit — reflecting the multilingual reality of the Hindu community it serves and ensuring that both younger English-dominant listeners and older Hindustani-speaking generations have a place on the dial.
The station’s tagline, “A New Awakening” — the literal meaning of “Jaagriti” in Sanskrit — captures its founding purpose: to awaken and sustain Hindu religious identity and cultural consciousness through consistent, quality media.
Radio Jaagriti’s programming spans the full spectrum of Hindu religious and cultural life, with content designed to nourish the spiritual, educational, and community needs of its audience.
Whether you’re in Tunapuna or thousands of miles away in the diaspora, there are several easy ways to tune in.
