Sangeet 106.1 FM is Trinidad and Tobago’s longest-running dedicated East Indian radio station, broadcasting on 106.1 MHz from Port of Spain since 24 September 1995. Known affectionately as “The Superstation”, Sangeet has built a reputation as the highest-rated East Indian station in the country for local Chutney music, Bollywood, sports coverage, news, and current affairs.
Sangeet was the fourth station launched by the Trinidad Broadcasting Company (TBC) — a media institution with roots stretching back to 1947, when it founded Radio Trinidad 730 AM, the country’s very first radio station. By the time Sangeet went on air in 1995, TBC had already accumulated nearly half a century of experience weaving East Indian music and culture into its programming. Sangeet was the natural evolution of that tradition — a full-time, dedicated frequency built specifically for the Indo-Trinidadian community.
The 106.1 MHz frequency had previously been operated by the Caribbean Communications Network (CCN) under a different format. TBC acquired it and transformed it into the East Indian station it is today, launching with 25 kilowatts of broadcast power from the Maraval Road studios in Port of Spain.
Today, Sangeet 106.1 FM operates as part of the TBC Radio Network, a division of Guardian Media Limited — one of Trinidad and Tobago’s most prominent media groups, which also publishes the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian newspaper and operates CNC3 television. Sangeet’s sister stations within the network include 95 The Ultimate One, Slam 100.5, Vibe CT 105.1, Sky 99.5, Freedom 106.5, and Mix 90.1 FM (Guyana).
Sangeet targets an audience of 18 to 40-year-olds within the East Indian community — young professionals, students, trendsetters, and cultural enthusiasts who want their music served fresh and their community represented on air. The station has consistently positioned itself as the go-to platform for the modern Indo-Trinidadian listener who wants Bollywood hits alongside local Chutney without compromise.
Beyond music, Sangeet is synonymous with community: it is the official radio partner for major Chutney events across Trinidad, produces road shows, and is closely associated with the popular Caura Fest celebration. Its social media presence and active event coverage keep it deeply embedded in the cultural life of the communities it serves.
Sangeet’s programming is delivered by a crew of experienced DJs and announcers including Nisha B, Rashmie Singh, DJ Vicky, DJ Nav, and Big Daddy — voices that have become familiar fixtures for listeners tuning in daily.
